Clothes That Matter
Appearance matters a lot. The purpose of wearing clothes should not be merely to cover nudity. Of course, some people don’t give this a thought. Rather, it includes giving impressions of who we are. Yes, clothes define our identity. What we wear speaks volume of us. Okay, do you pause to ask why certain people in our society adorn themselves in different or special apparels? Anybody seen in such apparel is regarded as belonging to the group. Doctors, nurses, soldiers, police, sportsmen and so on, all wear peculiar clothes that define their profession.Anyone that wears clothes belonging to a particular group risks going to jail if that person is later found to be an impostor. That’s one of the influences clothes have. Anyway, the issue is not really about professional clothes, but those that matter. You’ll agree with me that the clothes you had 3 years ago are no longer in vogue today. As you dress, what first or regular impression do you often give people; in your working place, market, recreational center, beach or say, when you have a date? Eh! That sounds funny, but do you really care about impressions? From childhood, I’ve always known that people are often described with what they put on when their names are not known. Is it the one that usually wear fashionable clothes, or threadbare clothes, or starched clothes, or old clothes, they would usually ask. Oftentimes the same thought that bugs our mind about our appearance is usually the same impression people have about us. But why do people usually wear the wrong clothes to places? Simply, people lack proper education about dressing. It can be appalling to find out you are the only odd fellow in the midst of others. I mean wearing clothes that makes you appear terribly boring, or disgustingly mean. I live in a country where some misinformed people choose to muffle themselves up in suit on a sizzling hot day. In public, they walk with shoulders high. Their motives for wearing what they wear can be either of these:
To display their new found wealth.
To show people that they are fashion conscious and therefore, can afford suit.
To impress someone they intend to date so that the person would rate their class high.
To boost their ego.So instead of appearing in clothes that rhyme with the event or occasion at hand, and taking into consideration the prevalent weather, they choose absurdity in the name of appearing cute. Again, I’ve seen people wearing traditional gowns and even suits to events like picnic. It’s irreconcilable for crying out loud. Such outfit for activities that have a dress code makes one appear ridiculous. And for those who are truly fashion conscious, they consider such fellows strange and incongruous. Also I’ve often seen people that look either like scarecrows or clowns because of wearing the wrong combination of clothes to events. They often appear to share behavioural resemblance with what they look like. What happen is that public opinion about such fellows change, and subsequently, their ego wane.Accordingly, we can go with the trend if we decide to. It’s never late to jump the bandwagon. In indeed our dressings speak volume of us, then, we have to be careful how we handle it. Because that presupposes that each time people see us on particular outfit, a particular impression registers in their mind about us that can hardly be changed. Let’s not compromise when it comes to fashion. Trendy clothes would look good on us for outdoor activities, but let’s avoid colour complications. This is where clothes sense comes into consideration. There is nothing wrong if we ask people if particular clothes looks good on us. When we’re indoors, we should always endeavour to wear clothes that suit indoor activities. The weather likewise should determine what we wear. Manual works such as farming and industrial labour have clothes suited for their purposes. That’s why we can’t just wear anything. Finally, as we live our life, let’s bear in mind that there are people that may not have the opportunity to relate with us, but our dressing and appearance speak to them on our behalf. Let’s take the trouble to appear unique and decent at all times. I would also like to reiterate that no matter how gorgeously dressed we think we are, we’d only look resplendent in our outfits if its rightly suited to the purpose for which it’s meant for. We can avoid fashion abuse. And if I may ask, “Who on earth won’t like to enjoy admiration?”
